ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Joshua Iype is a typical success story of Drumstruck Studios. He joined Drumstruck as a student and has since grew in both stature and musicianship and is currently one of the core instructors of the School. His versatility in music playing has allowed him to teach not only drums but other percussion instruments as well as bass guitar. Additionally, Joshua Iype is able to converse not only in English but also in Malay and Tamil as well as some basic Mandarin.
Joshua Iype came to Drumstruck to learn drums and audition for Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. Since then, he has attained double certifications with Rock School UK in both drums and bass and has been teaching at Drumstruck while he completes his Diploma in Performing Arts in Drums at Lasalle College, Singapore. Within Drumstruck, he teaches Drums to students ranging from young children all the way to folks that are over sixty years of age and he is also the sole instructor for Bass. Outside of Drums and Bass, he has also played in Batucada Ensembles and is able to teach and conduct Batucada curriculums, one of the unique Workshops that Drumstruck offers.
With his vast knowledge of the drum kit, Joshua Iype operates as a drum-technician occasionally. Outside of Drumstruck, he performs regularly at various functions and events. Some of his past experiences include “Singapore Youth Festival” at Victoria Concert Hall, “Beats Recall” and “Last Confession” at Arts House, “First step gig” at Substation, “Speak Good English Campaign” at Timbre and Ben & Jerrys, “Weekend Mayhem” at Music Garage, “Sun Festival” at Esplanade as well as “National Day Parade” at the Floating Platform. He has also performed as a sessionist in places like Clarke Quay’s Tapestry, Scape Lab, as well as Mount Faber and Timbre, proving to be a very sought after drummer and percussionist in the local music scene. Joshua Iype was also part of the judging panel for Ngee Ann Polytechnic Band Competition, alongside well-known local musicians.
Armed with his performing experiences, Joshua Iype is an integral part of the Drumstruck Instructors Jam Band, Veritas, that continues to help students assimilate into live playing and develop the necessary charisma to play in a band setting.
